Comedy MCs and hosts

Comedy MCs and event hosts who can run the room.

A good comedy MC or event host welcomes the audience, introduces what comes next and keeps energy in the room. Tell us how hosting fits the event and we can recommend someone suited to that job.

Hosting can be part of a complete comedy night or an individual booking.

What the host is for

Someone to introduce, connect and keep the event moving.

On a comedy night, the MC usually opens the room, introduces each act and holds the evening together between sets. At an awards dinner or company event, a comedy host may present awards, move people through a programme and add humour without turning the whole night into a club show.

The exact responsibilities are agreed around the brief. An MC can be booked on their own, included in a complete comedy night, or considered alongside an individual comedian.

Where it is used

Venue nights, awards, fundraisers and company events.

Comedy hosting is useful wherever the room needs a confident, audience-aware presence: introducing acts, presenting awards, linking speeches, or helping a fundraising or corporate audience settle. The tone still has to match the guests, the occasion and any subjects you would prefer to avoid.

We work across the UK with hosts at different stages of the comedy circuit, from experienced club comperes to better-known names, and with entertainment budgets from around £500 to £50,000 depending on the event.

Practical details

MC and host questions

Is a comedy MC the same as an awards host?
Not always. An MC on a comedy bill is there to introduce acts and hold the night together. An awards or event host may also present, time announcements and work around a wider programme. Tell us which job you need.
Can the host also do a comedy set?
Sometimes, if that is the right fit. It should be agreed as part of the brief rather than assumed.
Where else is this explained on the site?
There is still a short MC and host section on Hire a Comedian. This page is the fuller guide to hosting as a booking in its own right.
